The Goudy Difference

The Goudy family has been serving farmers in the North East and beyond for over 40 years.  My father Ken started it all by bringing Treflan to farmers in western Canada.  In the late 60's and early 70's Ken developed Treflan for use on rapeseed here in the Northeast.  The weed control and accompanying yield results were dramatic and helped usher in an era of tremendous progress throughout the parkland area of western Canada.

When the patent came off of Treflan in the 80's and the price actually went up instead of down, Ken, with the help of many progressive thinking farmers and a few associates, went to work to bring out a generic product that brought down the price by over 25%.

Having accomplished that, Ken looked around and felt that glyphosate (Roundup®) would be the next ideal project, as it was just coming off patent.  Glyphosate could have been a fantastic tool in the hands of farmers but it was priced way above what most farmers could afford.  Ken, and some of the same farmers and associates, undertook the monumental task of trying to raise the capital and farm support to not only produce a generic glyphosate, but to develop its uses as a pre-harvest product and soil conservation product.  At the time, Roundup® was priced at about $30/L and Ken felt that it could be produced and sold for around $6/L.  He was successful in organizing over 10,000 western Canadian farmers in this project.  While not quite reaching their goal of actually producing their own glyphosate, the group put so much pressure on Monsanto, that they brought the price down dramatically and got a pre-harvest registration.

My dad set a high standard of service for farmers in the North East and across western Canada with these and other projects.  I have been very involved in many of these projects and look forward to continuing to serving farmers, follow the excellent example that was set before me.
